Acidic Color-Care Mask OEM: Test Color Change and Combability Separately
Compare color change and combability on matched dyed swatches before approving an acidic mask for a salon aftercare range.

A mask can make dyed hair easier to comb without demonstrating color retention. Compare color change and combability separately, then approve the wording and format that match the finished product’s evidence.
Use the market signal to refine the job
OGX’s October 29 announcement separates a wash system and a specialized mask within an anti-frizz range. It does not validate color retention for another formula. For a color distributor, the useful decision is whether the new mask is primarily for easier handling after a service or for a distinct, evidenced color-maintenance benefit.
Create matched dyed swatch groups
Record shade, dye system, starting condition and timing after the service. Compare a benchmark and candidate under the same dose, water, shampoo, rinse, drying and wash-cycle conditions. Use a suitable color measurement or standardized photography as appropriate to the intended evidence; keep lighting and camera settings consistent.
Score handling separately from shade
Measure or score wet combability and dry feel without telling evaluators which sample is the candidate. Inspect color change against each swatch’s baseline. If combability improves but shade change is unchanged, keep the conditioning positioning. If the result differs between shades, avoid extrapolating from one shade to all color services.
Choose a service or take-home specification
Define who applies the mask, contact time, instructions and container size. The 500 ml salon route and retail options need distinct usage and pack review. Ask for separate MOQ and filling assumptions for each format rather than assuming the same purchasing minimum.
Frequently asked questions
Does low pH prove color retention?
No. Test the final formula under relevant color and washing conditions.
Can one shade support an all-color claim?
Do not generalize without representative evidence.
Is softer hair evidence of less fading?
No. Record the outcomes separately.
