Silicone Alternative in Hair Care: Compare Deposition, Slip and Repeat Use
Build a matched hair-conditioning comparison before replacing a silicone in a salon OEM formula.

Treat a silicone substitution as a new formulation comparison. Match the use conditions and compare wet slip, dry finish and repeated use before changing the ingredient declaration or sales claims.
What is new at the show
Givaudan Active Beauty introduced SensoTrue DM5 as an alternative to DM5 silicone for professional hair care and listed it for the November 3–5 Bangkok show. That is the supplier’s positioning. It does not demonstrate equivalence in your formula or show that JunChun currently uses the ingredient.
Request a fair comparison
Give the developer the existing formula’s job: wet detangling, dry glide, visible shine or light after-feel. Ask for the incumbent, the proposed substitute and a suitable base control if feasible. Agree the format, dose, rinse and hair history. A one-for-one concentration swap should not be assumed without checking formulation and processing requirements.
Test beyond the first comb-through
Use matched tresses and score wet combing separately from dry handling. Repeat the routine for an agreed number of cycles and compare residue, loss of volume and feel. Inspect the final package and stability as separate questions. If the candidate improves slip but weighs down fine hair, review the trade-off for that channel rather than calling it equivalent.
Make the purchasing decision explicit
Ask for the revised ingredient list, process changes, test scope and price before agreeing on a minimum. Selected mature formulas in compatible stock packaging can start from 100 pieces; a substitution is a formula project, not automatically a stock route. Packaging changes are reviewed from 500 based on process.
