Qualify a second closure on the filled product before approving it as a backup. Similar-looking components can differ in pickup length, sealing and delivered dose, and a show sample alone cannot verify any of those.

Bring an interface specification
Record neck finish, gasket, dip-tube length, actuator output, locking direction and supplier part numbers for the approved pack. Ask for a component drawing, tolerances and manufacturing lead time for each candidate. Check whether the supplier is quoting only the closure or an entire new bottle and closure combination.
Qualify the second source with the liquid inside
Compare both filled packs for priming, output, leakage and repeated opening under conditions relevant to the project. Include low-fill operation where pickup matters. Decide whether an output change would alter the usage instructions, fill-life estimate or artwork. A fitting closure should not go directly into production without approval.
Put the substitution rule in the quote
List the primary and backup component versions, acceptance checks and change-notification owner. Price the alternate separately and confirm MOQ: packaging changes start from 500 and actual component minimums may differ. Require written approval before any change to the filled pack.
